With its ability to image the body's internal organs and functioning without using X-rays, MRI is one of the greatest medical breakthroughs, and its development led to the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2003 for two scientists: of the State University of New York. Paul Lauterbur and Peter Mansfield of the University of Nottingham.
But within a month of the award being announced, a full-page advertisement appeared in The New York Times insisting that the MRI had actually been invented by a New York doctor named Raymond Demadian.
